Love, Mom and Dad
Your story hit home with me. You see I, like Hoa, am a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Luther College with a degree in French and elementary education. My daughter graduated from Luther College with a degree in French and political science 29 years after me. I know the kind of life my affiliation with Luther has led me to endeavor to live. I was a teacher who dedicated my life to the betterment of children. I know the depth of community, patriotism, and giving that a Luther education has afforded my own daughter who now has dedicated her future to intelligence work for our government. It causes me a great deal of pain to hear that Hoa who has chosen a life path so similar to mine could possibly have ended up in this situation where no one can think beyond the missed appointment. It could have been my daughter who might have made a scheduling error while studying French on her student visa. We have both walked in your shoes, Hoa. You should not be incarcerated. You must not be deported. If there is anyone to whom I can explain the character that is created in a young woman who walks the path that Hoa has walked I believe I have first hand knowledge of that path. She is like me, like my daughter, and deserving to continue to contribute in this world that which all Luther graduates understand that they are called to give. Why has this opportunity been taken away from her? I am disappointed in our legal system and apologize to you, Hoa for the appalling treatment you have endured at the hands of our leaders. You see I had thought I was proud to be an American where that Star Spangled Banner yet waves, o’er the land of the FREE, and the home of the brave. Blessings to you both and hope for that Lady Liberty will inspire someone to bring swift resolution to these issues.

Dear Dan,
I was your 4th grade teacher. Mrs. Nelson sent me your site. I hope that you can get Hoa the help she needs. It sounds like you are doing some creative things to help. It also sounds like you have a lot of support. I hope that our government will see that it was a mix-up and will straighten things out for the 2 of you. My blessings and prayers are with you.

GREAT JOB, Dan! Your message was not only detailed but more importantly, from the heart. Don’t think we didn’t catch you choking a bit here and there.
I am praying that this gets resolved the right way ASAP. When you mentioned how long Hoa was been in jail it made me sick.
You are doing a great job, Dan!

Dear Dan,
You can add a get together in Normandy France to the world map on the homepage. French Cheese and Baguettes served!
Take care of yourself and tell Hoa we are thinking of her.
